Sunday Morning Thoughts - Learning to Love Where You Are

When I first moved across the country to New Mexico I spent many days wishing I was anywhere but here- specifically back in New England or anywhere on the coast for that matter. Most of us have felt that way about somewhere we have lived at some point in our lives so I know I am not alone in that feeling. The problem is every time we feel this way we are just wasting the time we have been given and making ourselves miserable.

The truth is that whether or not we love where we live or spend every day miserable and wishing to move comes down to us and a daily decision that we make. Instead of focusing on all the things you hate, start looking at the things that make where you live unique and wonderful.

For me, it all started one day when I woke up and realized that fact. So I got up and decided I was going to love where I live. I started to pay more attention to my surroundings, looked for events and things to do on the weekends, spent time at growers markets and enjoying the outdoors, and eating at small, locally owned restaurants and cafes. I put myself out there and I focused on the things that make this community such a diverse and interesting place.

I encourage you to start loving where you are. Stop wasting your days and be in the now, you wont have this time again. Learn to call it home-it doesn’t have to be your forever home, it can just be your home right now. Embrace your place with open arms for what it is instead of hating it for what it isn’t and you just might find yourself missing it when you leave.
