5 Minute Face

In my set of Muji drawers I have one that has become dedicated to quick, every day, in a rush makeup. All I have to do is pull out that drawer, grab a couple of brushes, and pick my base and I'm ready to throw it on and then rush out the door. With how busy I am I have this down to a science, throwing on a fresh, wide awake face in no time.

For a base I have been using Burberry's BB Cream or YSL Touche Éclat foundation. Both leave my face looking fresh and glowing, the only difference being amount of coverage and the Burberry BB Cream has a tad more of a dewy look to it. Both are light and you can barely even tell I'm wearing makeup. Under my eyes I dab some Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector and if I need to I put a bit of Urban Decay's Naked Concealer to cover my dark circles and dab it on any spots that are peaking through.  For my cheeks I have been using Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal as a highlight to brighten everything up. I then put on Becca Beach Tint in Fig to add a bit of color to my cheeks. Both of these blend beautifully (confession: I just dab them on with my finger and then blend it. I'm in a rush, I don't have time for a brush!) and give the skin color and life without being too overpowering. I'll fill in the sparse bits of my brows with my Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz and a few sweeps of their gel, nothing too fancy we are keeping thing pretty neutral and easy here. For lips I use a variety of things but lately I have been grabbing Marc Jacobs lipstick in Anais or YSL Velopte Tint-In-Oil in Peach Me Love if I want a bit more color. Now that I no longer have eyelash extensions I have added in a quick little bit of mascara and I have been using Urban Decay Perversion Mascara or Maybelline Full 'N Soft after a quick run with an eyelash curler. I set it all with Laura Mercier translucent powder

I like this routine a lot. It is fast and simple, and in no time you look awake and ready to take on the day! You can add anything you want depending on the day-sometimes I add a quick swipe or two of Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Rosegold (concentrating on the inner corners and then blending it out a bit) over my eyes or one of the Becca Eye Tints. A quick scrub on your lips (or a run over them with your toothbrush) and some chapstick also look nice.  If I want a more bronzed look I use the Becca Bronzing Skin Perfector (noticing a trend? I'm obsessed with Becca products for quick, "your face but better" looks).

Sunday Morning Thoughts - Learning to Love Where You Are

When I first moved across the country to New Mexico I spent many days wishing I was anywhere but here- specifically back in New England or anywhere on the coast for that matter. Most of us have felt that way about somewhere we have lived at some point in our lives so I know I am not alone in that feeling. The problem is every time we feel this way we are just wasting the time we have been given and making ourselves miserable.

The truth is that whether or not we love where we live or spend every day miserable and wishing to move comes down to us and a daily decision that we make. Instead of focusing on all the things you hate, start looking at the things that make where you live unique and wonderful.

For me, it all started one day when I woke up and realized that fact. So I got up and decided I was going to love where I live. I started to pay more attention to my surroundings, looked for events and things to do on the weekends, spent time at growers markets and enjoying the outdoors, and eating at small, locally owned restaurants and cafes. I put myself out there and I focused on the things that make this community such a diverse and interesting place.

I encourage you to start loving where you are. Stop wasting your days and be in the now, you wont have this time again. Learn to call it home-it doesn’t have to be your forever home, it can just be your home right now. Embrace your place with open arms for what it is instead of hating it for what it isn’t and you just might find yourself missing it when you leave.

The Raven Fine Consignments - Santa Fe

While on the hunt for new furniture last weekend I made the drive up to Santa Fe to stop in at my favorite consignment store, The Raven. The second you walk in you can see that this is a 6,000 sq ft gem, filled to the brim with beautiful finds from all over the world. If you are from the area or passing through and on the lookout for chic, unique additions to your home stopping in here is a MUST. I try to pop up once every month or two just to browse or for inspiration even if I am not looking for anything in particular. The staff there is helpful and kind, and there is not even the hint of snobbery even if you're clearly just browsing with no intent to buy anything.

I am the worst and didn't charge my camera before driving up on Sunday and I forgot to change my lense but here are a few pictures from my latest visit.

Tom Ford Neroli Portofino

Few things are worse than when you impatiently wait for a Sephora order to come in just to be disappointed when it finally does arrive. Luckily, they have a great return policy but I wanted to give this scent from Tom Ford a review in case any of you are thinking of ordering it from somewhere that isn't as kind when it comes to returns.

Neroli Portofino is described as "Vibrant. Sparkling. Transportive. To Tom Ford, this scent perfectly captures the cool breezes, sparkling clear water, and lush foliage of the Italian Rivera." I agree, this scent screams summer with notes of Tunisian Neroli, Italian Bergamot, Sicilian Lemon, Winter Yellow Mandarin, Orange Flower, Lavender, Rosemary, Amber. I fell in love with the first spray but found myself needing to reapply it by the time I made the 45 minute commute to work. Seriously? I wasn't expecting it to stay all day (generally aquatic type scents aren't the most lasting) but at this price point I was at least hoping it would survive my morning commute.

Fast forward a week and I purchased both the shower gel and the lotion in an attempt to layer the scent so it lasts. The smell is identical across the line as is the quick fading. The shower gel is drying which makes the need for lotion even greater. The lotion is moisturizing but not as much as I would like it to be and the drying of the shower gel doesn't help it one bit.

The scent and the packing are beautiful but thats about all this line has going for it. I end up going through a large amount of product just to keep the scent throughout the day. It is far too overpriced for the quality. I'm not one to just return products I don't like at first but it is just too much money to go to waste and I will be returning the whole line.

How I Stopped Hating Oil Pulling

coconut oil picture from forever concious

After first hearing about oil pulling I spent a solid 30 minutes researching it before convincing myself to do it. There were no possible negative side effects to doing it and how bad can swishing some oil around for a whiter, healthier smile be? If only I knew what I was getting myself into. I couldn't even last a minute without gagging and spitting the coconut oil out of my mouth. I stopped trying for a while until I stumbled across a company that was selling little packets of flavored coconut oil to use for oil pulling. Of course, it cost more for 2 weeks of their product than an entire jar of coconut oil so I decided to make my own flavored coconut oil and that little choice changed my oral hygiene life.

If you're like me and grossed out by oil pulling try adding some pure oils to flavor it. Make sure your coconut oil is already liquid and then add as many drops as you need to flavor to your liking. My favorite is plain old peppermint. Then swish it around in your mouth for 15-20 minutes while doing something to distract yourself. I will usually throw something on tv, read, or catch up on emails while I do it. Hopefully this helps some of you like it has helped me. For those of you wondering if oil pulling actually works I can say that it has for me. My teeth are whiter and cleaner and there is no risk of sensitivity from using whitening systems.

Have you tried oil pulling before? What was your experience like?

Life Lately

Hi, hello, remember me? I'm still alive over here, no worries. I'm sorry for my lack of blogging (yet again), my laptop finally kicked the bucket and I have been working to save up for both a new car and a MacBook Pro and I FINALLY had enough to purchase both. Luckily there is so much I can do with an iPhone in times like this but blogging was not one of them. I'm hoping that I can find some time to squeeze this blog of mine into my day after work now that I ran out of excuses.

I haven't really been up to much outside of working LOADS every week. I made a trip to my college town last weekend to visit two of my friends from nursing school. They both live 3-4 hours away from me but we try to see each other a few times a year since graduating. I'm still in a weird place in terms of work/career limbo but I think I am starting to figure out the next course of action but luckily I have a job that keeps me busy but happy and well paid until then.

For Christmas I dove into my first subscription service head first and committed to a year with Vinyl Me, Please which is "the best damn record club out there" that sends an album that is exclusive to its members every month complete with a cocktail recipe and an art print. They also have a shop every month full of records and other goodies that members can purchase.

Movies & TV

I have one word. Rectify. holy. crap. It is about a man who was on death row in Georgia but was released after about 20 years because of DNA evidence. He returns home to live with his family in the same town he grew up in. There are two seasons of this show up on Netflix and it is amazing. While not the most exciting it is raw and emotional which is what keeps me interested as I locked myself away to watch the entire series one weekend. With the brilliant writing and perfect casting of wonderfully talented actors, Rectify feels more real than even the best "reality" show.

I have also been playing catch up with Mad Men and I am excited about the return of Game of Thrones- this season has been great so far!

That's about it. I have been gone for months but there hasn't been much going on. Thanks for sticking around and I hope you are doing well!
